Fabulous Friday Foods – Afternoon Tea at Grand Floridian’s Garden View Tea Room

Post by MickeyMouse71   /

This was a new adventure for me and one that I am so thankful to have been invited along. My good friend Amanda wanted to celebrate her birthday by enjoying an afternoon at Grand Floridian’s Garden View Tea Room. I must admit I was super excited to go, but I don’t drink much tea so I was a little worried. I guess the key to enjoying something like this is going with a friend who loves tea, knows about all the types of teas and can walk you through a memorable afternoon of teas and delicious foods. Oh the foods!! Thank you Amanda for teaching me so much about teas and how to enjoy them, I had a wonderful time.

You can choose from 3 different levels of afternoon teas ranging in price and what foods you receive. There is The Berkshire Tea, The Cheshire Tea and The Bedfordshire Tea. We were able to order 2 of the different experiences and share and sample as we enjoyed the afternoon.

A selection of fruits and imported cheeses and of course an edible flower.

I chose The Cheshire Tea – The Traditional Afternoon Tea Experience which included a selection of fruits and imported cheeses, a medley of finger sandwiches, traditional scone with accompaniments and a choice of dessert. The tea I selected was a Green and White Tea – Mango Ginger. I really enjoyed this flavor but learned that adding cream and sugar gave it an even better taste. So glad Amanda was there to give me suggestions.

A look at the choice of finger sandwiches, scone and desserts.

As a person with food allergies I often worry about what I will be able to eat when I head to new locations. In typical Disney fashion, I had nothing to worry about. The chef here did an amazing job of making sure that I had plenty of choices and even doubled up on the types of finger sandwiches I could eat. The poached pear and gorgonzola cream cheese was amazing. I love gorgonzola cheese and the pairing with the poached pear was magnificent. The scone with accompaniments was a raisin scone with Devonshire clotted cream (which if you’ve never had a chance to try, was out of this world). I might need to find this and use it on foods at home. There was also a lemon curd and strawberry jam that was served with a strawberry preserve tart. Oh where do I begin…except to say it was all exquisite. It was fun to try the Devonshire cream, lemon curd and strawberry jam on the scone to experience the different combination of flavors. (I almost felt like Remy from Ratatouille when he’s explaining to his brother Emile, how to try the different foods together and how the explosion of different flavors changes everything). I experimented by mixing the cream and lemon curd together and then the cream and strawberry jam together and trying it on the scone. Both were so amazing and yet so different. The Devonshire cream was also so delicious by itself on the scone. I learned that adventure is out there, even with food.

Mousse-filled Swan, French macaron (mocha and pistachio), and a chocolate covered strawberry.

There are a few different options for desserts, but this medley was magnificent. The mousse was rich and creamy without being too heavy and I loved the pistachio macaron. (I’m not a mocha person so Little Mouse got to try that macaron). To finish off the desserts was a sweet and savory chocolate covered strawberry.

I loved the mousse filled swan, so cute and tasted amazing.

Little Mouse decided to try The Bedfordshire Tea – Traditional Afternoon Tea which included the medley of finger sandwiches, scone with accompaniments and a choice of dessert. She chose the Green and White Tea – Summer Berry. I had a chance to try this one as well and the aroma was amazing with the flavor being rich.

Thanks Little Mouse for all your beautiful pictures.
Here is a wonderful picture of the medley of finger sandwiches. (Start at 12:00 and we will go clockwise). Sweet Curry Chicken, Traditional Egg Salad, Fire Roasted Tomato with Oregano-Goat Cheese, Onion Tart, Poached Pear and Gorgonzola Cream Cheese and Tantalizing Cucumber.
Scone with Accompaniments – Lemon Curd, Devonshire Clotted Cream, Strawberry Jam, Raisin Scone and Strawberry Tart
Fresh-cut strawberries topped with hand-whipped creme – I love the Grand Floridian logo on top, it is so pretty.

Amanda ordered The Cheshire Tea as well. You can see she has a bread choice that wasn’t available on my plate and also a few different cheeses.

The LIttle Mouse (Kylee)
The Infinity Mouse (Traci) – I had a wonderful afternoon.
The Infinity Mouse (Traci), Little Mouse (Kylee) and Amanda (Birthday Girl) – So blessed to spend such a wonderful afternoon with my daughter and good friend.
