Monday’s Disneyland Fun Facts

A Haunted Mansion in Disneyland?  Should it be scary or funny?  This was a question that Disney Imagineers bounced around for some time, and thankfully both were incorporated into this spooky ride.  For many this is a don’t miss ride at a Disney Theme park, and here are a couple of fun facts about this ride in Disneyland.

“Is this haunted room actually stretching or is it your imagination?”  I guess this is a question that only those who really love to know about Disney history would really think about.  In fact, in Disneyland there is an elevator with no roof that is being lowered slowly so that you have the illusion of the room actually stretching.  Which means you are below ground level and below the level of the park.  I bet you didn’t think you were that far below!  Did you ever wonder where you actually go when you’re riding in your “Doom Buggy”, or wonder where the ride takes you?  Doesn’t the Disneyland Railroad sit right behind the Haunted Mansion so where are you when you’re in your “Doom Buggy”?  You are in fact located outside the berm surrounding the park and not inside the Disney property.  It is crazy to think that they had to build the majority of this ride outside the theme park borders just to make it possible.  I guess that is one way to “stretch” the area of the ride.

There is also an important part of Disney history located inside the Ballroom.  In the far left of the room you will notice a pipe organ.  This is an original prop from the 1954 film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.  Prior to the building of the Haunted Mansion this organ was located in an attraction in Tomorrowland.  Make sure and look for this piece of history the next time you are in Disneyland.

It is amazing the amount of history and fun facts that can be found throughout Disneyland.  Let me help you plan your next trip to this magical place and see how many hidden mysteries you can find.
