Fun Fact Friday – The Contemporary Gingerbread House

Post by MickeyMouse71   /

Have you ever wondered what really goes into making a huge gingerbread house?  I’ve made small ones but I can’t even imagine how much time and supplies you would need to make one this big.

Here are some “fun facts” about the Contemporary Gingerbread House.  Lets start with what it took to make this stunning display.

  • 655 lbs. Sugar “snow”
  • 437 Jars of Honey
  • 1001 lbs. Flour
  • 27 3/4 lbs. Spices
  • 428 Eggs
  • 83 lbs. Rolled Fondant
  • 43 lbs. Dark Chocolate
  • 57 lbs. of Royal Icing
  • 156 lbs. Dark Modeling Chocolate

Now that is a bunch of flour!!  Here are some more “fun facts”:

  • There are 18 Hidden Mickey’s
  • It is 25 ft., 4 in. wide and 17 ft., 6 in. tall
  • More than 11 days to assemble
  • There are 5,000 Gingerbread Bricks
  • It took 39 Contemporary Bakery Cast Members to build this gingerbread house

As you can see a great deal of time, energy and ingredients go into making a large gingerbread house.  Make sure and plan some time to come and see this display at the Contemporary hotel.

Next to the gingerbread house display is a place where you can purchase wonderful treats from the contemporary bakers.  Below are all the things you can try.  I really like gingerbread so I just had to try one of the gingerbread shingles with the glitter in the shape of Cinderella’s shoe.  I was pleasantly surprised by how soft it was and it tasted as good as it smelled.  (This is the last picture after all the other treats)  I might have to try the solid white chocolate Cinderella just for fun but she looks so beautiful I’m not sure I would be able to take a bite.

There were so many fabulous choices it was really hard to pick only one to try.  I guess I might need to stop back by and try something else next week.

Once the Grand Floridian has their gingerbread house built I will be sharing pictures and information about their house and how it was built.  I’ve been told that the Grand Floridian gingerbread house is absolutely amazing, so keep watching for pictures and information.  I’m also hoping to see what the other resorts do and will be sharing what I find on my adventures.
