Well it isn’t exactly an end, but it is an end to Disney’s Electrical Parade at Magic Kingdom in Disney World.  Disney has announced that the parade will have its final run on October 9th, 2016 and that the parade is heading to Disneyland in early 2017.  This is great news for people in Disneyland who have missed the parade and have been hoping it would return someday.  In July of 2001 the parade moved from Disneyland to California Adventure in hopes that this would draw large crowds during their first summer.  It remained at California Adventure until April of 2010 when it then made its way to the Magic Kingdom in Disney World.  At the time Disney had announced that the parade would be in Magic Kingdom for just the 2010 summer, but then changed to say the parade would stay for an “open ended” run.

Although the run is now ending in Disney World, it is exciting to know that it will be “returning home” where it all started in 1972.  It has been announced that it will be in Disneyland for a “limited time engagement” and although we don’t know what this means or how long, we at least know that it will be there long enough for people to enjoy its return home.

It is beyond words how electrifying this parade really is to someone who hasn’t had the opportunity to see it in person.  The music, Baroque Hoedown, a synthesizer inspired song, has you on your feet and dancing from the first moment you can hear it coming down Main Street.  The combination of detailed floats and lights from classic Disney movies along with the performers covered in lights bring the entire parade to life.  Seeing this in person is the only true way to appreciate Disney’s Electrical Parade.

This has been my favorite parade since I was a kid and saw it during its first year at Magic Kingdom in Disney World.  I hope that Disney continues to find a way to keep this parade running for many more years to come.
